Hi all, welcome to this month’s Presidents message. As the first signs of more sunshine in our days over winter appear we can only hope that our club runs get back on track. It’s been a challenging start to the monthly runs so far this year.
The May club run to the Gatton Transport Museum was again cancelled due to severe weather. My thoughts go out to all people affected by the flood events of recent times, it’s been a very trying time for too many. We have adjusted our plans for several interesting club runs in the coming months, fingers crossed they all proceed as scheduled. We must include a run where we can bring our club trailer along. The trailer has new tyres, paint, signwriting, and a few minor improvements to better serve our barbequing needs. It needed a bit of a tidy-up after 24 years of faithful service!
Expo planning is moving along well and as I write we have just collected our new flyers from the printer. We will distribute flyers to members at our upcoming club meetings so we can advertise the event through as many motoring related retail outlets as possible. If you can’t make the meetings and want some flyers to hand out, please contact our club secretary. It was also decided to engage a third party, most likely the Lions club, to run our food tent in 2022.
Regarding the Expo in 2021, many volunteers will be aware that the traditional lunch to thank those who volunteer their time on the day did not eventuate. At the May meeting it was decided to remedy this and all volunteers should now have been contacted to advise that the club run to Old Petrie Town on the 3 rd of July will include a lunch paid for by the club for these volunteers. Please respond to run coordinators Ron Holden or Neil Sweetman to confirm your attendance.
We have seen the need to look at our constitution with a view to updating it. This document in essence governs the way our club is run and many clauses within are very outdated. There are areas regarding payments, club membership rules, indemnity, bylaws, etc. that need updating. A sub-committee will be formed to look at this and then it will be voted upon at a future meeting. Any member is welcome to contribute to these discussions, please contact myself in the first instance.
My thoughts now turn to the Annual General Meeting to be held in October this year. I encourage all members to consider nominating for a position on the committee to help run our wonderful club. I personally have discovered its not an onerous task but has been a positive and collaborative experience working with fellow committee members to further the club members interests. Contact our club secretary at any time to register your nomination.
As stated last month, we would welcome your suggestions on things that might motivate you to come along and join in the regular club meetings. Why not send an email to the Secretary with 3 things that might make you come along? Maybe we could focus on supplier presentations, technical talk sessions, better free food, etc. It’s your club, please get involved and help us grow to the mutual benefit of all.
Have a great month, enjoy your vehicles and I look forward to seeing you all again soon.
